Castile and León

5 days · ~12 h 55 driving ·Castles, Hill towns

A long journey across the plateau of Castile and León, from Madrid to Salamanca. The first days pass through the walled towns of Segovia and Soria provinces: Pedraza, Sepúlveda above the Duratón gorges, Maderuelo, and El Burgo de Osma with its cathedral. Next come the Burgos villages: Covarrubias, Lerma, built around a ducal palace, and Castrojeriz on the Way of St James. Urueña, a walled village full of bookshops, then opens the way south to the mountain villages of Candelario and La Alberca.
