Lucainena de las Torres
Member of Los Pueblos más Bonitos de España
The towers in Lucainena's name recall a medieval wall where six towers guarded a seventh, the refuge of villagers during sieges. The village stands at about 550 metres in the Sierra Alhamilla, not far from the Tabernas desert, and won first prize in a village beautification contest in 1998. Iron was once mined in the surrounding hills, and the Senda Minera footpath leads through that landscape.
