Visso

Five valleys and five streams meet in the mountain basin of the upper Nera that holds Visso, seat of the Monti Sibillini National Park. Wool and livestock trade paid for the Renaissance palaces of its centre, and a long feud with Norcia over pasture ended in the 1522 battle of Pian Perduto, later told in a mock-heroic poem. The 2016 earthquake left several of its churches unsafe.
