Sellano

Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia

·

Compact and walled, with bastions, gates and a few noble houses, Sellano stands on a clay hill 640 metres up in the Vigi valley. Its position on the routes linking the Valnerina with Foligno and Spoleto made it a prize for centuries. Since 2024 a suspension footbridge 175 metres high links it to the castle of Montesanto.

Highlights

  • The suspension footbridge to the castle of Montesanto
  • Madonna della Croce, an octagonal church finished in 1538
  • The Palazzo Comunale, with 16th-century frescoes and a gilded copper plate
  • Postignano, a hamlet founded in the 9th–10th century on an old road
  • Hiking in the valleys around the source of the Menotre
