Pettorano sul Gizio
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
Six medieval gates once led into Pettorano sul Gizio, a village on the Gizio river whose castle was enlarged by Charles of Anjou in the 13th century. After the Majella earthquake of 1706 it was rebuilt as an 18th-century village, with baroque palaces for the Cantelmo stewards and local families. It also keeps the only Greek fragment of Diocletian's price edict found in the West.
