Pescocostanzo
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
After the 1456 earthquake, master builders from Lombardy settled in Pescocostanzo, and their skill in stone, marble, wrought iron and wood shaped the town. At 1,395 metres on the high plateaus of Abruzzo, it bought its freedom from feudal lords in 1774. In winter skiers come for the slopes of Monte Calvario, part of the Alto Sangro ski area.
