Sarrant
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
Most bastides were built around a market square, but Sarrant's houses form a ring around its church of Saint-Vincent. A charter of customs of 1265 put this royal fortified village in the hands of consuls rather than the local lords. Today its lanes of medieval and half-timbered houses, entered through an old town gate, are best explored on foot, in the Lomagne countryside near the Gimone river.
