Larressingle
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
Walls still ring the old core of Larressingle, a Gascon village where a ruined castle built between about 1250 and 1550 stands beside the church of Saint-Sigismond. It rises above vineyards that produce armagnac, in the Osse valley some 6 km west of Condom. The scallop shell on its coat of arms is a nod to the pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela.
Highlights
- The ruined castle and its fortified enclosure, both listed monuments
- Church of Saint-Sigismond, listed in 1988
- Medieval siege machines among the village's sights
- The Pont d'Artigues and the Peneau dovecote
- Armagnac from the vineyards below the village
