Perched at 800 metres above the ribera d'Èvol, this hamlet of Olette is built of schist, its houses roofed with stone slabs. Guillem de So raised a castle here in 1260; one tower still stands among the ruined walls, and Évol became a viscounty in 1337. The novelist Ludovic Massé was born here, and a small literary room and a folk museum keep the village's memory.
