Châtillon-en-Diois
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
Under the limestone wall of the Glandasse mountain, Châtillon-en-Diois stands on a small rise some 12 km south-east of Die. For centuries the bishops of Die held its castle and lands, and the coat of arms still recalls La Tour-Gouvernet, a Protestant captain who ruled the barony in the late 16th century. In 1989 the village hosted the world mountain running championships.
