Mirmande
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
Between Valence and Montélimar, Mirmande climbs the side of a ridge above the Teyssone valley, backed by wooded hills such as the Crête de Malivet. Its name comes from an old word for a fortified village, and records of a castrum here go back to the 13th century. Westward, the land drops in a series of plateaux towards the Rhône.
Highlights
- A hill village whose name means a fortified settlement
- The Teyssone valley, running east to west below the village
