A 19-metre tower is what remains of the fortress Count Gutierre Menéndez raised at Vilanova dos Infantes in the 10th century; the rest was pulled down in 1476 after the Irmandiño revolt. Around it, the medieval village has recently been restored. In the church of San Salvador, a Romanesque Christ hangs on a cross shaped like the branches of a tree.

Highlights

  • The medieval tower, later used as the town hall
  • San Salvador church, with its tree-branch Romanesque crucifix
  • Castromao, a fortified pre-Roman hillfort near the village
  • The Virgen del Cristal feast on 15 September, with an open-air mass
