Mirambel
Member of Los Pueblos más Bonitos de España
Much of Ken Loach's Land and Freedom was filmed in Mirambel in 1994, a walled village of the Maestrazgo whose whole historic centre has been protected since 1980. In the Carlist Wars Ramón Cabrera set up a gunpowder works here and later gathered his generals to issue a famous proclamation. Today farmers below San Cristóbal mountain grow almonds and vines and, in good years, find truffles.
