Llerena
Member of Los Pueblos más Bonitos de España
The masters of the Order of Santiago made Llerena their usual residence, and from 1508 it was the seat of an Inquisition tribunal whose district was the third largest in Spain. At the foot of the Sierra Morena, the town reached its peak in the 16th century, with seven convents. Its historic centre, protected since 1966, keeps the churches the masters founded and the memory of a large Jewish community.
