Bulnes
Member of Los Pueblos más Bonitos de España
No road reaches Bulnes: until 2001 the only way in was a steep path up the Tejo gorge, and now a funicular climbs through a tunnel bored into the limestone of the Picos de Europa. The hamlet's two quarters, El Castillo above and La Villa below, long lived from livestock and Cabrales cheese. Today walkers and climbers come for the mountains, above all the Naranjo de Bulnes.
Highlights
- The Bulnes funicular, through a 2,227-metre tunnel from Poncebos (ES)
- The old Canal del Tejo path from Poncebos, about 75 minutes uphill
- A walk to see Picu Urriellu, the Naranjo de Bulnes
- Cabrales cheese, the local herders' traditional product
- Mountain routes to Amuesa and Pandébano
