Agulo
Member of Los Pueblos más Bonitos de España
On the north coast of La Gomera, Agulo stands about 200 metres above the sea and is known as the island's 'green balcony'. Settlers mostly from Tenerife founded it in the early 17th century, and bananas, still the main crop, brought a spell of prosperity in the early 1900s. Above the village, the Meriga forest belongs to Garajonay National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
