Langhe, Roero and Monferrato
The vineyard hills of southern Piedmont, listed by UNESCO for their wine landscapes, fill these three days. The route starts in the Monferrato at Cella Monte, where cellars called infernot are carved into the soft local stone, then crosses into the Langhe for Castagnole delle Lanze, Neive, Monforte d'Alba and Barolo, which gives its name to one of Italy's best-known red wines. Guarene, in the Roero, looks across the Tanaro towards Alba, and Cocconato, back in the Monferrato, is the last stop before Turin.
