Venzone
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
The 1976 Friuli earthquake all but flattened Venzone, and its people chose to rebuild the medieval town as it was, using the rubble stone by stone; the work ended with the cathedral in 1990. It stands where the Tagliamento valley meets the Canal del Ferro, inside a double ring of walls begun in 1258. Near the cathedral, naturally preserved mummies drew visitors even in Napoleon's day.
Highlights
