Offida

Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia

·

Two branches of the Lama stream carved the rocky spur that gives Offida its irregular plan, between the Tesino and Tronto valleys. At its western tip, ringed by ravines on three sides, stands Santa Maria della Rocca, a great brick Romanesque-Gothic church of 1330 with a frescoed crypt as large as the church above. The surrounding hills produce Offida wines from Pecorino and Passerina grapes.

Highlights

  • Santa Maria della Rocca, with frescoes by the Master of Offida
  • Palazzo Comunale, with a seven-arched portico and a small art gallery
  • Sanctuary of Sant'Agostino, keeping a 13th-century Venetian silver reliquary cross
  • The Serpente Aureo theatre in the historic centre
  • Offida Pecorino and Passerina white wines (IT)
