Saint-Quirin
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
Named after Quirinus of Neuss, a Roman martyr, Saint-Quirin grew around a priory of the abbey of Marmoutier and was long an important place of pilgrimage. First recorded in 966 as a hermitage called Godelsadis, it lies in Lorraine amid forests that cover nine-tenths of the commune, where the Sarre Rouge rises. The priory was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War and partly rebuilt in the 18th century.
