Marcolès
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
In the chestnut country of southern Cantal, Marcolès grew up on a promontory above the Rance valley, and its medieval core still keeps a web of narrow lanes and fragments of old fortifications. The Franciscan visionary and alchemist Jean de Roquetaillade was born here in the early 14th century. Around the village, rounded granite boulders lie scattered through the meadows and woods.
