La Garde-Guérin
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
In the 12th century the bishop of Mende turned this spot on the Régordane road into a guarded border post, run by a fellowship of knights called the pariers who guarded travellers and collected tolls. The fortified village, beside the Chassezac in the commune of Prévenchères, keeps its paved lanes, a square keep and a Romanesque church. Only about a dozen people live here all year.
